Hello! This is my Term 2 reflections. The reason I have put this on is because we have done many fun and cool stuff this term that I hope you will find interesting.
I will go in order of what I have done this term. First of all I have Technology, a thing the senior syndicate (my class and the opposite class) do once a week. My class did on Thursday, but we have stopped for this term. Second I have Ecological Buildings, which is REALLY interesting. I hope you like!
Technology-
I have already told you a bit about Tech. Early on a thursday morning, room 13 (my class) go down on the bus to Tech. We live in Greytown and we go down to Featherston. It’s really fun! I went to woodwork and I made this funky box with a purple top. I keep chocolates in them! yum YUM!
Ecological Buildings-
Ecological buildings was really fun! We searched images first, and there was some really interesting stuff! Search for yourself on google images. Some things are CRAZY!
Then we thought of a place in our school to redesign and make more eco-friendly and sustainable. I had been given a job that was a bit different- we have redesigned our creek to make it better for the environment, and I drew the plan. Mr Field let me design the little island in the middle! It’s called Vampie’s Island (not really, it’s actually named after my REAL name, which is not Vampie). I did my inquiry on that. I had to research plants that could go onto the island, and would be good for the wildlife. It came out great!
Add/Sub-
This term for maths we have been doing Addition and Subtracting with big numbers and strategies. You have seen some examples of what i have been learning on my maths page.
Cross Country-
For cross country this year I did really well. It was a really hard trail with thistles and high hills. i got into Interschool again this year! I think I did really well in that as well.
It is soooooooo hard!
Autumn poem-
I am really proud of my autumn poem too. it’s already on this wiki. Have a look! i want to be a writer when I am older, maybe not a poet, but a writer for sure!
Te Reo-
I’m not so sure about Te Reo, I have been pretty good. I need to work on remembering things! I am really good with pronouncing, and I know my numbers pretty well.
Preforming Arts/Drama- Oh yeah! I was one of three people selected from the school to compete in theatre sports! It is so cool! I think I am really good at acting, I just need to stop getting stage freight. Have you heard of ad lib? It’s when you make things up as you go when you are acting. You have no script, you just go for it! It makes you feel so great to do whatever you feel!
Guess what? I am competing in the next stage! I am in a team of four!
Speeches
We did speeches recently, and they were all REALLY good! I think mine was ok. I did my speech on a story I am writing called The Great Exodus. I felt really nervous in front of the class doing this, but I did it! This is the speech here:
Hi, I’m Ruby.
In the near future my dream is to publish my first novel worldwide, as I love writing and I know that my dream is possible.
If I push myself far enough and actually finish a book without running out of steam and throwing it away I could do it.
The great thing about writing is that you can go where ever you want, do whatever you want, meet whoever you want, and be whoever you want, without even getting off your buttocks.
Many ideas have sparked in my mind and start to grow into a flame, but they always seem to perish, because they didn’t have enough air to grow.
But I have a feeling that the series I have started and even finished the first part of, will last, and become the key to unlocking my dream.
The Great Exodus, my book, is probably the eight thousand book I have started, but the first I have finished. It is the first part of a four part book in a five book series, but the numbers may change.
It is based on real people that I know, and like all stories that truly come from a writers heart, it is really based on my life and how I feel about different people.
I am the main character, a young girl named Rosa Bridson.
It starts off with an exciting sudden punch, to draw the reader in.
The streets of Greyville had erupted in smoke as giant men on giant motorbikes wearing hard leather and sunglasses zoomed through the town, and breaking into houses.
They ended up stealing all the adults of New Zealand, and taking them to some unknown place.
So I, along with my brother and my dog, guessing what had happened, went over to my baby cousins’ house and picked them up.
On the way back, I bump into five people, who are yes, based on real people, but you will have to read my book to figure out or just guess who they are.
Together we form a band of kids, who go around, saving all the kids around our town.
We agree that there are lots of people in Wellington we know, so we drive, yes drive, because if you think about it who is stopping us, anyway, we drive the people we have collected down to a house in Lower Hutt, owned by two kids who are ALSO based on real people.
We camp there, day by day rescuing more and more kids. Kids we see on the street, kids we remember and know where they live, and kids who stroll in because they have seen the posters we had put up around town.
If anyone I know is listening to this, you might want to check out this book when and if I publish it, because YOU might be in it!
I am the leader of the group, as I thought of the idea and had successfully lead the children to safety.
Then it gets exciting.
But I’m not telling you because I don’t want to give it away to this many people before it even comes out, and for copyright reasons... not that I don’t trust you or anything.
Oh yeah, I drew this picture on my computer for the first chapter of my book, as I will be illustrating it myself. Here it is.
That is the end of the first book. There is a lot more to it though.
We have the question in our mind still, why did they take all the adults of this one country and leave the children, and who where those men, which is all revealed in the sequel: The Great Exodus, Searching For Fire.
I am still currently editing the first book and I am about a quarter of the way through writing the second.
The reason it is called The Great Exodus is because Exodus means that you are moving a really big amount of people to a different place at one time.
I hope with all of your support I will be able to publish my book, and that you will enjoy it.
